They allow the deck level draw off to remain constant, enabling the most dangerous microbiological pollutants to be removed from the pool to be filtered out in the pool plant system. Whilst this is what they are designed for, they often become a breeding ground for harmful pathogens such as Legionella pneumophila, Psuedomonas aerugenosa, E. Coli, Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
The Industry Codes of Practice state the frequencies for routine Balance Tank maintenance tasks of inspections and cleaning, that should be conducted every six months in a swimming pool and as much as monthly in a spa, depending on bather activity.
